Dar Says Trump Plan Diverges from Muslim Draft

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the 20-point Gaza plan unveiled by US President Donald Trump does not align with the draft presented by eight Muslim-majority countries. Speaking to lawmakers, Dar noted that the Muslim nations had demanded a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, whereas Trump’s proposal envisages only a partial pullback tied to the release of remaining hostages.

Trump’s plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, the return of all hostages within 72 hours, Hamas disarmament, and the creation of a transitional “New Gaza” overseen by an international Board of Peace, led by Trump himself. The blueprint also includes former UK prime minister Tony Blair in an undefined role. However, Dar stressed that the Muslim countries’ draft sought a path toward a two-state solution and permanent Palestinian statehood.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier welcomed Trump’s plan in principle, but Pakistan insists that any peace must include full Israeli withdrawal and recognition of Palestinian sovereignty. Netanyahu has repeatedly rejected the idea of Palestinian statehood. The ongoing war has already killed more than 66,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, and left much of the enclave in ruins.
