ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed U.S. President Donald Trump’s “historic leadership” after a landmark Gaza ceasefire declaration was signed at an international summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The deal, endorsed by leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye, marked an official end to Israel’s two-year assault on Gaza, which claimed over 67,000 Palestinian lives. The summit followed the exchange of hostages and prisoners — Hamas freed the last 20 Israeli captives, while Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinians.

At the ceremony, Trump called it “a tremendous day for the Middle East,” asserting the agreement would “hold up” and establish lasting peace rules. His whirlwind diplomacy included stops in Israel’s parliament and Egypt’s Red Sea resort, where the signing took place.
Prime Minister Sharif commended Trump’s relentless efforts, saying he “worked day and night to make the world a peaceful place.” He also thanked Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye for mediating the end of the conflict.
