Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the international community to achieve a just, lasting solution to the Palestinian question and to promote comprehensive peace in the Middle East. The resolve was expressed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during an open debate of the UN Security Council on the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
Addressing the Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people remains firm and unwavering. He stressed that the international community—particularly the Security Council—has a clear responsibility to convert renewed diplomatic engagement into tangible improvements on the ground for the Palestinian people.
He described the unresolved Palestinian question as the central cause of long-standing instability in the Middle East. The Palestinian people, he said, have suffered for decades under illegal occupation, facing dispossession, repression, and denial of their fundamental rights, including the right to self-determination. He added that the situation has deteriorated dramatically over the past two years in Gaza, with unprecedented civilian casualties, mass displacement, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and severe humanitarian suffering.
The ambassador also voiced concern over continued ceasefire violations in Gaza and increasing restrictions on humanitarian organizations, warning that such measures are obstructing aid delivery to the most vulnerable. He called for full respect of the ceasefire and urged the international community to firmly oppose any military escalation or unilateral actions that threaten civilian protection and undermine peace efforts.
