Multiple Arrests in Iran Over Alleged Espionage for Israel

[post-views]

Dozens of people have been arrested across Iran on suspicion of sharing sensitive information with Israel, local media reported on Sunday, as Israeli and US fighter jets continue to strike new targets in the country.

In northwestern Iran, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that 20 individuals were detained following accusations from the provincial prosecutor’s office of providing location details of Iran’s military and security installations to Israel.

In northeastern Iran, which has largely avoided airstrikes, Tasnim said 10 people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly collecting information about sensitive sites and economic infrastructure.

A provincial branch of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence organization stated, “As the Zionist enemy and the US attempt to invade Iran, they simultaneously activate mercenaries and spies to incite unrest.”

In the western province of Lorestan, three people were also detained for trying to influence public opinion and burning mourning symbols, according to the Student News Network.

Reuters reported that Israel has begun targeting security checkpoints based on informants’ tips, marking a new phase in its operations against Iran. Iranian authorities have previously blamed Israel and the US for stirring the widespread anti-government protests in recent months, which were met with the deadliest crackdown in the country’s history.
