WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has warned that the United States will become Iran’s “worst nightmare” if it refuses to accept a proposed peace plan, while claiming that Tehran is “begging” for an agreement.
Despite the strong rhetoric, questions remain over how Washington intends to bring Iran to the negotiating table, especially after nearly four weeks of conflict have failed to shift Tehran’s position. Analysts note that continued military pressure may not necessarily change Iran’s strategic calculations.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that a 15-point peace proposal has been delivered to Iran, though no details have been made public. The plan is reportedly part of broader diplomatic efforts involving regional intermediaries.
An Iranian official, speaking to state media, said Tehran maintains a “natural and legal right” to control the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane for global energy supplies.
The situation has further escalated after Israel claimed it killed an Iranian naval commander linked to the blockade of the strait. Ongoing attacks across Israel, Iran, and Lebanon continue to fuel instability, while missile debris in Abu Dhabi has reportedly killed two people, heightening regional tensions.
