Trump Signals Progress on Iran Talks While Issuing Fresh Threats

[post-views]

Washington — Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States is engaged in discussions with what he described as a “more reasonable regime” in Iran to end the ongoing war. Despite expressing optimism about progress, he warned Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe military consequences.

In a strongly worded message, Trump claimed that negotiations were advancing and a deal was likely soon. However, he cautioned that failure to reach an agreement or to restore shipping through the strait could result in US strikes on Iran’s critical infrastructure, including oil facilities, power plants, and Kharg Island. He also extended the threat to desalination plants that supply water.

Earlier, Trump had announced a temporary 10-day pause in attacks on Iran’s energy sector, set to expire on April 6. At the same time, Washington has continued deploying additional troops to the region, raising tensions.

Iranian officials have rejected claims of direct negotiations, accusing the US of sending mixed signals—offering diplomacy while preparing for possible military escalation—further deepening mistrust between the two sides.
