Pakistan to Acquire Advanced Chinese Submarines to Boost Maritime Security

[post-views]

Pakistan is set to strengthen its naval capabilities by acquiring a fleet of advanced submarines from China, according to official statements released on Thursday. This move reflects the deepening defence partnership between the two longtime allies and aims to enhance Pakistan’s maritime security.

The submarines are being added to Pakistan’s growing list of Chinese military equipment, which already includes J-10C fighter jets that were used in last year’s conflict with India. Officials say these jets played a role in aerial operations during that period.

A ceremony to mark the commissioning of the first submarine, named Hangor, was held in Sanya, China. The event was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari and Navy Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf. While the military did not disclose full details, a government official confirmed that Pakistan will receive eight submarines in total. Four will be built in China, while the remaining four will be produced in Pakistan under a technology transfer agreement.

These submarines will feature modern weapons, advanced sensors, and air-independent propulsion systems. Officials believe they will significantly improve naval strength, help maintain regional stability, and serve as a deterrent against potential threats.
