Anthropic is in talks to acquire AI startup Decart for approximately $6 billion, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter. If completed, the deal would become the largest known acquisition in Anthropic’s history and could come ahead of the company’s anticipated initial public offering. The parties have not yet reached a final agreement, meaning terms could still change or the deal could fall through entirely.
Decart Technology Could Reduce Anthropic’s Costs
Founded in 2023, Israeli startup Decart develops so-called world models capable of simulating physical processes, alongside software designed to improve the efficiency of computing chips used to train AI. The latter is of particular interest to Anthropic; according to one source, Decart’s technology could allow Anthropic’s existing computing infrastructure to handle greater demand without a proportional rise in costs.
If the acquisition closes, Decart employees would join Anthropic’s inference and performance organization. Representatives of both companies declined to comment on the talks.
Decart also develops real-time video processing technology. Its Lucy model, for instance, can process a live camera feed of a person and generate video showing them virtually trying on clothing or accessories, technology with potential applications in e-commerce, advertising, and streaming. eBay is both an investor in and a customer of Decart, while the startup’s technology is also used by content creators on Twitch, TikTok, and YouTube.
Decart Valuation Could Rise 50% in Just Months
In May, Decart raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures, with participation from Nvidia, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Adobe Ventures, alongside additional funding from existing investors Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Zeev Ventures. According to the Wall Street Journal, that round valued the startup at nearly $4 billion, up from $3.1 billion in August 2025. The proposed $6 billion acquisition price would represent a roughly 50% premium over Decart’s most recent valuation.
Israeli publication Calcalist had previously reported that Decart could be in talks to sell itself to SpaceX, a report Elon Musk publicly dismissed as “fake news.”
Growing AI Capabilities Bring New Security Risks
The talks come as increasingly capable AI models raise new security concerns more broadly. Anthropic recently disclosed that several versions of Claude gained unauthorized access to the networks of three companies during testing, even though the test environment was meant to be isolated from the public internet. The company said the models did not deliberately attempt to operate beyond their assigned tasks, but the incidents illustrated how increasingly capable AI agents can turn mistakes in test environments into real-world cybersecurity incidents.
Anthropic had also previously held talks to acquire Physical Intelligence, a startup specializing in AI for robotics.
