The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered a fresh post-mortem examination of late Pattoki Assistant Commissioner Furqan Ahmed, nearly a year after his burial at Islamabad’s H-8 Cemetery.
Justice Shahrukh Arjumand issued the order on Saturday while hearing a petition filed by Ahmed’s father, who has been pursuing legal proceedings to establish the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. The court directed the District Magistrate to complete the post-mortem process within 10 days.
Furqan Ahmed died at a rest house on August 31, 2025, after completing relief activities in flood-affected areas. Questions subsequently emerged over the circumstances and exact cause of his death, turning the case into a matter of continuing concern for his family.
In its order, the court noted that there was no dispute over the fact that Ahmed had been buried at the H-8 Cemetery in Islamabad. It therefore concluded that the exhumation of the body and the subsequent medico-legal examination fell within Islamabad’s jurisdiction.
The District Magistrate has been instructed to constitute a medical board to conduct the examination. The court also directed that the relevant authorities, Ahmed’s father or his authorised representative, and the investigating officer from Kasur be included in the process.
The court observed that the death of the Pattoki assistant commissioner could not be reduced to a mere administrative dispute, particularly when questions about its actual cause remained unresolved.
According to the judgment, almost a year has passed since Ahmed’s death, but the relevant authorities have yet to provide a clear and satisfactory explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding it.
The fresh post-mortem is expected to form an important part of efforts to determine the cause of death and address the questions that have remained unanswered since August last year.
