Pakistan is prepared to provide all necessary military support to Saudi Arabia and defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and holy sites, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said.
In an interview with Independent Arabia, the military spokesperson warned that attacks on any member of the Makkah pact involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye could trigger a collective response.
He said Pakistan had urged all parties, including Iran, to exercise restraint and pursue a negotiated settlement to prevent the conflict from escalating. However, if diplomatic efforts fail, the pact’s collective deterrence mechanism would come into play.
Ahmed described the agreement as a defensive arrangement based on mutual trust, shared security interests and Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognises the right to self-defence.
He declined to disclose operational details, citing military confidentiality, and said Islamabad would consider any formal request for assistance to Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The spokesperson added that attacks threatening Saudi Arabia and Islam’s holy sites had sparked widespread anger in Pakistan. He stressed that the country’s political and military leadership remained committed to protecting the kingdom while continuing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
He warned that the message applied both to those carrying out attacks and those supporting them.
