The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is revving up for a big race as the polls for 27 remaining National Assembly (NA) seats are slated to be held next month. The last week of March will witness the election on seats that were recently vacated due to resignations by PTI members.

The ECP, determined to hold a fair and smooth election, has already announced its plan for 33 seats, with 31 more seats to be added to the roster. But, with the NA tenure coming to an end in August, the commission has to pause elections from April till the completion of the term.

Sources reveal that the ECP is leaving no stone unturned for the grand finale – the general elections, slated for October/November this year. The commission, however, does not have any say in the polling date for the provincial assemblies, which will be determined by the sitting government and the provincial governors.

Before the final call, the ECP has to take into consideration technical and constitutional requirements. But, the sources assure that the commission is geared up and ready to hold elections for the dissolved provincial assemblies.
