Real Madrid made history by capturing the Club World Cup for the fifth time with an electrifying 5-3 victory over Al Hilal on Saturday in Morocco.
Youngster Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde both scored two goals each, while Karim Benzema, returning from an injury, also found the back of the net in Madrid’s magnificent triumph over their Saudi Arabian rivals.
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, who advanced as the Champions League champions from last season, possessed too much offensive firepower for Al Hilal to handle. Madrid’s triumphant performance at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat secured their second trophy of the season, following their European Super Cup win in August.
This victory was a much-needed break from their La Liga campaign, where they trail their rivals Barcelona by eight points, who had also defeated them in the Spanish Super Cup final in January.
Madrid previously claimed three Intercontinental Cups in 1960, 1998, and 2002 – a competition between European and South American champions, which merged with the Club World Cup in 2005.
