On Wednesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial declared that the Supreme Court had made a final decision on the Punjab polls and it was time to “move on” after receiving a briefing from military officials the day before.
During the briefing, the director general of military operations briefed the bench while the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the defense secretary were also present.While hearing three pleas seeking elections for all assemblies on the same date, CJP Bandial noted that although the briefing of the military authorities was very impressive and shed light on the actual situation, no briefing was given during the case’s hearing.
He further stated that now that the verdict had been announced, they cannot go back and must move forward.The same bench had previously announced a verdict on April 4, directing the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold snap polls in Punjab next month.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense moved the top court to seek elections across the country on the same date and asked the court to withdraw its order directing Punjab polls on May 14.However, today two more pleas were filed in the apex court seeking polls across the country simultaneously, one by a citizen named Mohammad Arif and the other registered by Advocate Shah Khawar on Sardar Kashif Khan’s behalf. As a result, the court decided to hear all three pleas together.
