Former finance minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Miftah Ismail has blamed the current government for causing a delay in the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has severely impacted the IMF deal, Republic Policy News reported on Friday.
In an interview with journalists in London, Ismail said that the delay caused by the incumbent government has put the country at risk of default. He added that the IMF deal should have been completed six months ago, but Pakistan has not yet been able to secure the required funds from friendly countries.

According to Ismail, IMF will reach a conclusion after the Budget 2023 is announced, and fundamental reforms are necessary to get the country out of the current economic situation.
When asked about his advice to current finance minister Ishaq Dar, Ismail said that Dar does not need his advice, but he has the right to criticize government policies.
Regarding the political situation, Ismail said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was the most popular party in Pakistan before the recent vandalism. However, the party’s violent arrests may affect the PTI support.
