Caretaker PM Removes Pakistani-American Businessman as Special Assistant

[post-views]

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has revoked the appointment of Texas-based Pakistani-American businessman Muhammad Tahir Javed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM).

In a notification released by the PM Office, the appointment of SAPM Javed has been rescinded.

This decision followed lobbying efforts by a group of American-Pakistanis, sources revealed, despite the initial appointment notification on October 6.

Upon the Prime Minister’s approval, the Establishment Division withdrew the appointment notification for Javed as special assistant.

Shortly after his appointment, reports surfaced that the Pakistani-American businessman was enjoying the same perks and privileges as a state minister, despite having contributed funds and campaigned for Imran Khan and the PTI while Imran was Prime Minister.

On his social media profiles, Javed describes himself as a Pakistani-American entrepreneur, investor, business magnate, and philanthropist.

Although he actively campaigned for Imran and the PTI while they were in power, he has become a vocal critic of Imran in recent months, characterizing Imran as an unsuccessful Prime Minister whose celebrity status as a cricketer is his sole claim to fame.

In a recent interview, he expressed his disappointment with Imran, particularly regarding Imran’s visit to the USA in November 2019, which he regarded as unproductive for Pakistan, given what he perceived as Imran’s lack of substance, plan, and vision.
