French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Tel Aviv on Tuesday to convey his country’s unwavering support for Israel in the wake of the October 7 attacks by Hamas, which inflicted significant casualties and triggered a humanitarian crisis.
Upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Macron first met with the families of French victims. He later held talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem.
In his discussions with President Herzog, Macron reiterated France’s resolute solidarity with Israel in its battle against terrorism. He underscored the gravity of the situation, as Hamas’s offensive resulted in the loss of over 1,400 lives, including 30 French nationals. Macron expressed his visit’s primary purpose, stating, “What transpired will be etched in memory. I am here to demonstrate our unwavering support.”
In the aftermath of Israeli retaliatory airstrikes and assaults, more than 5,000 Palestinians, including over 2,000 children, have lost their lives in Gaza. Furthermore, more than 15,000 Palestinians have sustained injuries, according to reports from the Gaza health ministry.
These horrific events in Gaza have displaced over a million Palestinians, adding to the already dire humanitarian crisis.
During his visit, Macron also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing the need for international cooperation in resolving the escalating conflict.
