Morality acts as the guiding principle for a functioning society. Moral values create a social structure that shapes individual behaviour and social interactions. Moral values also foster social solidarity, meaning the sense of belonging and mutual support among members of a society. Without moral values, society would either fall into chaos or be controlled by coercion and fear.
Furthermore, moral values provide a sense of meaning and purpose for individuals and groups. Moral values also motivate people to act in ways that benefit themselves and others rather than harm them. Without moral values, people would suffer from moral disengagement, meaning the loss of connection between their actions and their moral standards. Moral values also reflect the ideals and aspirations of a society. Moral values also serve as the criteria for evaluating the rightness and wrongness of actions and outcomes. Without moral values, society would lack a common ground for moral reasoning and judgment.
Therefore, moral values are essential for a functional society, as they enable people to cooperate, communicate, and co-exist peacefully and productively.
Therefore, moral values and codes are essential for Pakistani society. However, unfortunately, there is a decay in the moral values in the Pakistani society. Then, many also believe that it is a wrong notion and that society is being transformed into new beliefs and codes. Nonetheless, most people opine there is a process of decaying human values in Pakistan. The primary reason for the fall of moral values is the absence of the rule of law. A society without the rule of law and justice will always produce compromised moral codes and value systems. Therefore, there is an urgent need to instil the significance of moral values and codes in Pakistani society.

There is a need to promote social harmony and cohesion in Pakistan. Moral values and codes can foster a sense of belonging, respect, tolerance, and cooperation among different groups and individuals in a diverse and multicultural society. They can also prevent or resolve conflicts, violence, and extremism arising from moral disagreements or violations.
Then, it is also essential to protect human dignity and rights. Moral values and codes can uphold the inherent worth and dignity of every human being, regardless of their gender, race, religion, ethnicity, or any other difference. They can also safeguard the basic human rights and freedoms that are essential for human flourishing, such as the right to life, liberty, education, health, justice, and equality.
Awareness is always vital to enhance personal and social development. Moral values and codes can inspire individuals to act with honesty, integrity, responsibility, compassion, and generosity. They can also motivate individuals to pursue excellence, creativity, innovation, and self-improvement in their personal and professional lives. Moreover, they can encourage individuals to contribute to the common good of society by serving others, volunteering, donating, or participating in civic activities.
Therefore, Pakistani society must ensure moral values and codes that are consistent with the Islamic principles of taqwa (consciousness of God), adl (justice), ihsan (benevolence), akhlaq (ethics), and Rahmat (mercy). These principles can provide a comprehensive and holistic framework for moral education and action that can benefit both individuals and society as a whole.
