Justice Raises Accountability Issue for Armed Forces and Judges

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court has issued a comprehensive 27-page dissenting statement in response to the recent NAB amendments verdict. In his observations, he emphasized that accountability laws should apply to members of the armed forces and judges.

The Supreme Court’s decision, with a majority 2-1 vote, was rendered on September 15. It effectively invalidated certain changes made to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999, which had been implemented during the tenure of the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government.

The three-member bench responsible for this decision included the then-Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, alongside Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan.
