Nuclear Confrontation Risks Highlighted by Russia’s Defense Minister

[post-views]

In a defense forum held in Beijing, Russia’s defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, made allegations on Monday, asserting that the United States is actively exacerbating geopolitical tensions to maintain its “global dominance through any means necessary.” Shoigu further raised concerns about the potential for confrontation between nations armed with nuclear capabilities.

During his address at the Xiangshan Forum, China’s prominent annual event focused on military diplomacy, Shoigu also pointed fingers at NATO, suggesting that the alliance is using the guise of dialogue and collaboration with regional countries to extend its presence in the Asia-Pacific.

Shoigu claimed that Washington had spent years intentionally undermining international security and strategic stability, particularly the framework of arms control agreements. He emphasized that the U.S. and its Western allies were endangering Russia by expanding NATO’s reach “eastward.”
