South Africa’s outstanding performance in all facets of the game led them to a resounding 190-run victory over the high-flying New Zealand in a crucial World Cup 2023 match at MCA International Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.
The Kiwis were bundled out for a mere 167 runs in 35.2 overs while chasing a colossal target of 357 runs to secure their spot in the top four of the points table.
New Zealand faced an early setback in the third over when opener Devon Conway was dismissed for a paltry two runs, courtesy of Marco Jansen’s delivery.
Jansen struck again in the ninth over, claiming the wicket of Rachin Ravindra, who managed just nine runs. Will Young attempted to revive the Kiwi chase but was eventually dismissed for 33 runs by Gerald Coetzee. The Kiwi skipper, Tom Latham, also fell for a low score, followed by the loss of four quick wickets.
