Islamabad: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has boycotted the general elections to be held on February 8.
Through a letter sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the former leader of PTI said that general elections are going to be held in serious violation of the constitution.
Quoting a poem of famous poet of Punjab, Syed Waris Shah, he said that the elections are being held to eliminate the opposition and to reward our blue-eyed and chosen people.
The former minister said that election exercise without democratically electing people is a futile exercise.
He said that he was arrested only to force him to withdraw from the election. Fawad said people from his group were arrested and threatened with dire consequences.
Fawad said that his nomination papers were rejected without any solid reason and said that his brother’s nomination papers were approved but then he was implicated in a false NAB case along with me.
Fawad said that the power of governance is a trust meant to be democratically transferred to the people of Pakistan as guaranteed by the constitution and should be transferred through elections.
He said that the constitution of Pakistan is equipped with a real democracy. It may be recalled that the former minister was barred from contesting the elections from NA 60 and 61 (Jhelum).
