ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faiz, during the hearing of the nomination papers case from Balochistan Provincial Constituency PB Ek Shirani, remarked that everyone is filing writs against the decisions of the Election Tribunals. He said that this process is an interference in the work of Election Commission and it should be stopped. He said that this process also burdens the judicial system.
The Chief Justice made these remarks in an appeal against the decision of the High Court to declare the nomination papers of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam nominee Dr. Nawaz valid. The Chief Justice upheld the decision of the High Court in appeal.
The Chief Justice said that going into factual questions is not our job but the job of the election tribunals. He said that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional body and it should be allowed to do its work.
He said that by filing a writ in the High Court against the decision of the Election Tribunal, it is converted into an intra-court appeal. He said that requests should not come on such small things.
The Chief Justice said that the Election Commission is not a private institution but a constitutional institution and its decisions should be trusted.
