World Community Must Play Their Role for Gaza

[post-views]

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), in a bold and courageous verdict, has addressed Israel’s conduct in the Gaza Strip. This case, brought before the ICJ by South Africa, alleges that Israel has committed and continues to commit genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, contravening the Genocide Convention. South Africa requested provisional measures, including the immediate suspension of Israel’s military operations in and against Gaza. The ICJ, while not ordering an immediate ceasefire, did issue an order requiring Israel to take all measures to prevent acts that could be considered genocidal according to the 1948 Genocide Convention. The court acknowledged that some of the alleged acts fall under the provisions of the convention. However, the ruling does not shield Gaza’s people from ongoing aggression. The international community, including organizations like the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), must play an active role in resolving the conflict. A two-state solution, involving the dismantling of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and the partition of Jerusalem, remains crucial for lasting peace. Pakistan, too, voices its opposition to Israel’s siege and relentless bombing, demanding an end to the oppression faced by innocent Palestinians
