According to a recent statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), three retired army officers have been detained by the military in relation to the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings against former director general of Inter-Services Intelligence Lt-General (retd) Faiz Hameed. The ISPR disclosed that these officers are under military custody due to their actions being detrimental to military discipline. Further investigations are ongoing to probe the involvement of additional retired officers and their associates in inciting instability at the behest of specific political interests.

Reportedly, two of the detained officers hold the rank of brigadier, while the third is a colonel. Sources have identified the two brigadiers as Ghaffar and Naeem, with the retired colonel being referred to as Asim. These individuals are believed to have served as intermediaries between a political party and the former head of the intelligence agency. The two accused brigadiers, known for their facilitative role, are said to be from Chakwal. The total number of individuals taken into custody in connection with the Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed case, including retired officers, currently stands at eight.

In a separate media address, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar hinted at the possibility of additional arrests following the detainment of the three retired servicemen. Emphasizing the imperative of safeguarding the country’s security, he condemned the actions attributed to Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, suggesting a connection to the desires of a prominent political figure. Tarar underscored the need for accountability for the actions of those involved and declared that further arrests would ensue as the investigation progresses and unveils more individuals implicated in the case. The minister conveyed that any entity causing harm to the nation would not be spared, asserting the government’s commitment to preserving peace and stability.

Furthermore, Tarar emphasized the significance of institutional self-accountability, emphasizing the need for every organization to adhere to this principle. He accused a specific political party and its leader of undermining the country’s integrity and contributing to destabilizing the nation’s law and order situation. Highlighting the government’s efforts to combat these challenges, Tarar stated that initiatives directed at economic and political stability were being pursued under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
