The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Tuesday that Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed (retd) has been formally charged with engaging in political activities, breaching the Official Secret Act, misusing authority and government resources, and causing harm to individuals.
The ISPR stated that a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) was initiated against Hameed on August 12, 2024. The investigation includes his alleged involvement in instigating unrest, particularly related to the May 9, 2023 events, in collaboration with political groups.
The military emphasized that Hameed’s legal rights are being respected during the proceedings.
Earlier in August, the ISPR revealed that Hameed had been placed under military custody, following a court of inquiry ordered by Pakistan’s Supreme Court to investigate complaints against him in the Top City case. This inquiry led to disciplinary action under the Pakistan Army Act, with several post-retirement violations being identified.
Hameed had been previously cleared by a commission looking into the Faizabad Dharna case, a 2017 protest that he was allegedly involved in, which ended after an agreement was reached between the government and protesters.
