China’s inaugural domestically-produced commercial airplane successfully completed its debut flight on Sunday, soaring from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to Beijing in under two hours with a full passenger load of 130 individuals.
As reported by the Chinese publication China Daily, the C919 single-aisle aircraft was meticulously crafted by the Commercial Aviation Corporation of China, as the nation sets its sights on penetrating the global aviation market, presenting a formidable challenge to industry titans Airbus and Boeing.
Airbus’s A320 and Boeing’s B737 jets currently dominate the market for domestic and regional flights, enjoying widespread popularity.

The momentous flight was executed by China Eastern Airlines, a state-owned carrier, and the aircraft’s exterior proudly displayed the inscription: “The World’s First C919.”
Although the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) was responsible for the design of numerous C919 components, several vital parts, including the engine, were still procured from Western suppliers.
