Gwadar: The port city of Gwadar has been declared a disaster area after two days of heavy rains in the southwestern regions of Balochistan province.

Balochistan Caretaker Information Minister John Achakzai announced on Thursday that Gwadar has been declared a disaster area due to the alarming situation arising after the recent torrential rains.

The Chief Minister’s Office has confirmed the decision to declare Gwadar as a disaster-hit city.

Achakzai said that Caretaker Chief Minister Ali Mardan Domki is monitoring the relief activities in Gwadar and other rain affected areas.

Heavy rains wreaked havoc in Gwadar as the lack of drainage system resulted in rainwater not only pooling on roads and streets but also seeping into residential and commercial properties.

Moreover, floods are being reported in streams and small rivers in the affected area.

Local people have been forced to leave their homes and move to safer places under your help. There are reports of power supply and internet services being suspended as well as several houses and buildings collapsing.

Under the worsening climate change crisis, Pakistan is witnessing more extreme weather events.
