In response to India’s disappointing results in Test cricket, including a historic 0-3 defeat at home to New Zealand and a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented strict new regulations. This decision was made during a review meeting held on Saturday in Mumbai, attended by BCCI officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma.
As reported by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has decided to reintroduce a previous rule that allows no family members to accompany players during tours, a policy that had been relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to an official from the BCCI’s Mumbai office, players will not be permitted to have their wives and family members travel with them on any tour. Board officials believe that the presence of family members, especially on overseas tours, negatively impacts player performance. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, several players had their families with them throughout the tournament.
Under the newly established guidelines, for tournaments or series lasting more than 45 days, family members may only accompany players for a maximum of 14 days. For shorter tours, this allowance is reduced to just seven days.

In an effort to promote team unity, the BCCI has also mandated that all players must travel together on the team bus and will no longer be permitted to travel separately, regardless of their status in the team.
Additionally, the BCCI has taken action against Gautam Gambhir’s manager, Gaurav Arora, who had been accompanying the team on tours. This practice, which has not occurred previously in Indian cricket, has now been prohibited. As a result, Arora will no longer be allowed to stay in the same hotels as the team, sit in the VIP box at stadiums, or use the team bus.
These measures signify the BCCI’s commitment to improving team performance and maintaining strict discipline within the squad as they prepare for future challenges.
