Biden Signs Multiple Bills into Law as He Wraps Up Presidency

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed 50 new laws, including one that officially designates the bald eagle as the national bird and another that prohibits members of Congress from receiving their pensions if they are convicted of crimes.

Among the notable measures is the establishment of the first federal anti-hazing standard aimed at curbing violence and fatalities on college campuses across the country. Biden also approved legislation supported by reality TV star Paris Hilton, which holds youth treatment centers and facilities accountable for their practices.

In a separate move, Biden recently vetoed a proposal to add 66 judges to the overwhelmed federal court system. Earlier this month, he commuted the death sentences of 37 out of 40 federal inmates, converting their sentences to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also granted a full and unconditional pardon to his son, Hunter Biden.

This surge of legislative activity comes as Biden seeks to finalize key initiatives before handing over the presidency to Donald Trump on January 20. He is also focused on distributing funds already approved by Congress for domestic infrastructure projects and military support for Ukraine.
