PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari criticized the PTI’s “agitational politics” on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of achieving stability in the country, either through dialogue or force. Addressing party workers via video link to mark the PPP’s 57th foundation day, Bilawal urged the “non-political opposition” to embrace democratic norms for the sake of economic stability.
He pointed out that major opposition parties were neither political nor democratic, calling on them to adhere to the principles of politics. Bilawal stressed that both the opposition and the government share responsibility for ensuring the country’s stability.
The statement came after PTI’s protests in Islamabad earlier this week, which led to violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement, resulting in the deaths of several security personnel. PTI’s protest was against the “illegal” imprisonment of their leader Imran Khan and other grievances.
Bilawal also commented on the federal government’s potential move to impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging for mutual consultation on such decisions.
Additionally, he criticized PTI for focusing solely on securing the release of Imran Khan instead of addressing public concerns, and declared the opposition as the “biggest obstacle” to political stability. Bilawal called for all political parties to return to the political sphere to restore peace, and warned against policies that could harm farmers and the economy, specifically regarding the planned canal project from the Indus River.
He also highlighted the resurgence of terrorism in some regions and called for a new action plan to address the growing threat.
