Diarrhoea Outbreak Sweeps Karachi’s Malir District

[post-views]

In Karachi’s Malir district, the number of diarrhoea cases surged as 67 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the total to 327.

The Sindh Health Department confirmed that since June 28 until July 5, a total of 327 individuals, including women and children, have been afflicted with Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD).

During the first six months of the year, only one AWD patient was brought to Murad Memon Hospital, and three cases of cholera were reported from January to June.

The health department spokesperson revealed that contaminated water tanks filled with sludge were identified as the source of the outbreak, with the vibro cholera/E-Coli virus found in the main water supply.

To address the situation, Dr Jamel Mughal, the District Health Officer, has written a letter to the deputy commissioner of Malir district, urging the water board to clean the tanks and ensure the presence of chlorine in the water to eliminate any germs or viruses.
