LAHORE — Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Friday took notice of allegations that a citizen was asked to pay a bribe at Noor Shah Police Station in Sahiwal and sought an immediate report from the district police officer.
The minister directed the DPO Sahiwal to investigate all aspects of the incident through a transparent, impartial and merit-based inquiry to establish the facts.
He also praised the Anti-Corruption team for its timely action and said the provincial government was committed to implementing Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a corruption-free Punjab.
“There is no room for corruption, misuse of authority or injustice to citizens in government institutions,” the minister said.
To ensure that the inquiry remains free from pressure or interference, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan ordered that the station house officer of Noor Shah Police Station and the concerned moharrir be relieved of their current responsibilities until the investigation is completed.
The minister said providing citizens with prompt and equal justice remained among the Punjab government’s priorities. He added that no public official would be allowed to misuse authority, harass citizens or unlawfully detain anyone.
He further said the government was determined to remove corrupt officials from public institutions and warned that anyone found using official authority for personal benefit would face strict action under the law.
