The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared on Friday that it will be holding by-elections for 33 unoccupied National Assembly (NA) seats on March 16th.
These seats were rendered vacant earlier this month when the NA Speaker, Raja Parvez Ashraf, approved the resignations of 34 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf legislators and the chief of the Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid.
The PTI had submitted their resignations collectively in April of the preceding year after the dismissal of Imran Khan, but only 11 resignations were accepted in July.
The speaker had previously stated that he would be reviewing all remaining resignations individually, but he acted expeditiously and accepted 113 more resignations after the PTI leader announced his return to the assembly.
