The military trial of former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid is expected to wrap up within the next few weeks, according to his lawyer, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq. Ashfaq, who represents Gen (retd) Faiz along with two associates, confirmed the proceedings are nearing their end.
When asked whether Gen (retd) Faiz is set to testify against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Ashfaq refrained from commenting, citing the confidentiality of the trial under the Official Secrets Act. He did not deny media reports about the initiation of the trial, stating that he had seen such reports but was not in a position to confirm them.

Regarding the trial’s timeline, Ashfaq mentioned that while he couldn’t predict an exact conclusion date, it could likely be completed in the coming weeks. He also reiterated Gen (retd) Faiz’s stance on the charges against him, asserting that his political contacts post-retirement were simply routine social interactions, as previously reported by the media.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) recently issued a statement outlining the charges against the former spy chief, which include engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, and misusing authority and state resources. The ISPR also noted that these actions were detrimental to national security and state interests.
Additionally, Gen (retd) Faiz’s role in the events of May 9, 2023, is under investigation, with allegations of his involvement in stirring unrest and destabilizing the country in collaboration with political figures.
