The Pentagon has strongly condemned these acts as “unsafe and unprofessional” and is calling on Russia to put an end to such reckless behavior. Air Force Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich described the encounter, stating, “A US MQ-9 Reaper drone was conducting a mission against ISIS targets in Syria when Russian fighter jets approached. One of the Russian jets began dropping flares in front of the US drone, seemingly attempting to target it.”
This dangerous escalation follows a similar incident from the previous day, where Russian jets harassed three US drones, forcing them to change their intended routes.
