An Accountability Court has granted a 10-day extension to the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the new Toshakhana reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). This decision comes after the NAB team sought a 14-day remand for both accused, but the court extended it until August 8.
A tense exchange occurred between NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and Imran Khan during the court hearing. Bushra Bibi vocalized her discontent, expressing that the court seemed to overlook the alleged injustices committed by the anti-graft body. Imran Khan emphasized that his spouse had no involvement with the state gifts and should not be implicated in the case. He further alleged that NAB officials could file references against individuals for monetary gain, leading to a heated confrontation between him and the NAB prosecutor.

Imran Khan has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail since August of the previous year following his conviction in various cases. Despite being acquitted in several cases, including the Cypher trial, the Toshakhana references, and the Iddat case, both Imran and his spouse remain jailed in the latest Toshakhana reference. This marks the third instance in which the accountability court has granted physical remand for the PTI founder and his spouse. The couple was apprehended in the new reference from Adiala Jail on July 13, following an Islamabad district and sessions court’s acceptance of their bail in the Iddat case. Subsequently, on July 15, the court approved an 8-day physical remand, which was followed by another 7-day remand on July 22.
