Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that Tehran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz while the US naval blockade continues, calling it a clear violation of the ceasefire. He stressed that any ceasefire is meaningless if restrictions like the blockade remain in place.
His remarks came as Donald Trump extended the ceasefire for two weeks, following Pakistan’s request to allow more time for diplomacy. However, Trump confirmed that the blockade would stay until a formal agreement is reached. Iran has rejected negotiations under pressure, insisting talks can only happen under fair conditions.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei reiterated that diplomacy would only be pursued when it aligns with Iran’s national interests. He also appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts but said continued military pressure, vessel seizures, and threats were blocking meaningful dialogue.
Meanwhile, tensions rose further after Iran’s forces seized two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting growing risks in a key global oil route.
