Iran Says It Warned U.S. Warships in Gulf of Oman Amid Maritime Tensions

[post-views]

Iran’s navy said on Friday that it fired warning missiles and deployed drones near U.S. warships in the Gulf of Oman, accusing the United States of interfering with maritime traffic and seizing commercial vessels and oil tankers, according to Iranian state media.

The incident came shortly after the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command announced that American forces had intercepted the sanctioned stateless vessel M/T DAVINA in the Indian Ocean overnight. The U.S. military said it would continue maritime enforcement operations aimed at disrupting illicit networks and preventing vessels from providing support to Iran.

The latest exchange highlights growing tensions between Tehran and Washington over maritime security in regional waters. The United States has intensified efforts to enforce sanctions on Iranian oil exports, while Iran has repeatedly criticized such actions and warned against interference in shipping routes.

The Gulf of Oman and the nearby Strait of Hormuz remain strategically important waterways, with developments in the region closely watched by global energy markets and international shipping operators.
