Pakistan and Azerbaijan Strengthen Bilateral Ties with Multiple Agreements

Pakistan and Azerbaijan signed several agreements on Monday to enhance bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, energy, education, agriculture, and environmental protection. The agreements were finalized during the two-day official visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Azerbaijan, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev were present at the signing ceremony, where six key documents were exchanged following a bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks. The focus was on expanding collaboration in various areas critical to both nations.

Among the key agreements, an MoU was signed between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Pakistan’s Frontier Works Organization (FWO) along with the Pakistan State Oil Company Limited. This agreement aims to facilitate collaboration on the Machike-Thallian-Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline Project. The documents were exchanged by SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and FWO Director General Abdul Sami.

Furthermore, an MoU was signed between SOCAR and Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) along with Pakistan State Oil Company Limited to strengthen ties in the oil and energy sectors. SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and PRL Managing Director Zahid Mir exchanged the documents.

Additionally, the two countries amended their Framework Agreement for the Sale and Purchase of LNG cargoes, which was signed by SOCAR President Najaf and Pakistan LNG Limited CEO Masood Nabi. The partnership aims to enhance the bilateral energy relationship.

Another significant agreement focused on petroleum products, with an MoU signed between PSO and SOCAR Trading SA. PSO CEO Syed Muhammad Taha and SOCAR Trading’s representatives formalized this collaboration.

Further agreements were signed to promote cooperation between Nakhchivan, an autonomous republic of Azerbaijan, and Lahore in various fields such as culture, tourism, urban development, education, economy, and science and technology.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan also signed several MoUs and agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in customs, agriculture, scientific research, and environmental protection. These included agreements on electronic information exchange between customs departments, cooperation in agriculture, and plant quarantine and protection. Additionally, MoUs on scientific research, vocational training, and environmental protection were also signed, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.
