Pakistan and Iran Discuss Regional Tensions, Emphasise Need for De-escalation

[post-views]

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday to review the rapidly evolving regional situation and discuss matters of mutual concern.

The discussion came amid growing tensions in the Middle East following reports that Iran has suspended indirect message exchanges with the United States through mediators after recent Israeli military actions in Lebanon. According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, Tehran’s negotiating team decided to halt the communication process due to developments on the Lebanese front.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed deep concern over recent regional events, particularly reported Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon and statements regarding possible military operations in parts of Beirut. He appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and constructive engagement in regional affairs, requesting Islamabad to continue supporting initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and preserving the ceasefire.

During the conversation, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s concern over the deteriorating security situation and stressed the importance of maintaining existing ceasefire arrangements to prevent further instability and conflict. He underscored the need for dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the most effective means of addressing regional challenges.

The two leaders also exchanged views on broader developments across the region and agreed to remain in close coordination. Pakistan continues to advocate restraint, diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution to support regional peace, stability and security.
