Pakistan President slams constitution circumvention

Pakistan’s President, Dr. Arif Alvi, has voiced concerns that the country’s constitution is being violated under the guise of setting a date for elections. He expressed his views in a recent interview, stating that rather than finding ways to circumvent the constitution, it should be respected. He cautioned the government against disregarding the constitution’s provisions in its efforts to hold elections, urging them to avoid creating a deadlock.

Alvi also commented on the current government, saying that it appeared to be a technocratic setup that was receiving support from undisclosed quarters, rather than a coalition government. He was questioned about the extension of retired general Qamar Javed Bajwa, stating that the PTI Chairman, Imran Khan, should be held responsible for it, and that he had not discussed the matter with the sitting army chief. Additionally, Alvi mentioned that Khan had not discussed the allegations against Asif Ali Zardari with him.

The President warned that the arrest of Imran Khan would exacerbate the country’s situation, stating that he had no authority to take action against governors regarding the issue of election delays.
