Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to promoting global peace through active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions. In his message on the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, observed on May 29, the prime minister paid tribute to the brave military, police, and civilian personnel serving under the UN flag in conflict-hit regions around the world.
He said Pakistan’s continued role in peacekeeping reflects its lasting commitment to international peace, security, and multilateral cooperation. Referring to this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” he stressed the importance of sustained political and financial support for global stability and human protection.
The prime minister highlighted that since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 UN peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women peacekeepers. He said Pakistan is proud to be the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations and honored the sacrifices of more than 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving humanity and promoting international peace.
