Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review Pakistan’s Auto and Auto Parts Policy, with a strong focus on speeding up the country’s shift towards electric vehicles (EVs).
Officials briefed participants on proposed measures to encourage EV adoption, strengthen local manufacturing, and support the automotive industry through effective government policies. The meeting also examined the sector’s potential to create jobs, increase exports, and contribute to climate change mitigation efforts.
Addressing the participants, Dar emphasized the need for a competitive, innovative, and sustainable automotive ecosystem that can drive economic growth and industrial development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a future-ready industry capable of generating skilled employment while promoting environmentally friendly transportation.
Dar highlighted the importance of a comprehensive policy framework that attracts investment, supports domestic production, and accelerates the use of clean technologies. The meeting decided to establish a subcommittee to consult stakeholders and finalize the draft policy.
The review forms part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to modernize its automotive sector and advance sustainable economic development.
