Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has confirmed that 21 Pakistani nationals were among the survivors of a tragic boat accident near the Moroccan town of Dakhla.

In a statement, the FO revealed that these individuals were rescued after a migrant boat carrying 80 passengers, including 66 Pakistanis, capsized while en route to Spain. Moroccan authorities rescued 36 people, with 44 of the 50 presumed dead reportedly being Pakistani nationals, according to Helena Maleno, the CEO of rights group Walking Borders.

Following the incident, the Pakistani embassy in Rabat promptly provided essential aid such as food, water, medicines, and clothing to the survivors. Medical teams are also actively assisting in relief efforts. The embassy, along with the Pakistani government, is maintaining close communication with Moroccan officials to monitor the situation and offer continued support.

The names of the rescued Pakistanis include Mudassir Hussain, Waseem Khalid, Muhammad Khaliq, Abdul Ghaffar, Gul Shamir, Tanveer Ahmed, Muhammad Abbas Kazmi, Ghulam Mustafa, Imran Iqbal, Shoaib Zafar, Ali Hasan, Muhammad Asif, and Bilal Iqbal.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has directed relevant government departments to provide immediate assistance to the victims. He also called for swift action to address the growing issue of human trafficking, emphasizing the need for stronger measures to prevent such tragedies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged for enhanced international collaboration to dismantle human trafficking networks. He instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to compile a detailed report on migration-related incidents over the past year and called for the implementation of an Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) to curb illegal migration.
