Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently representing Pakistan at the Climate Action Summit during COP-29, taking place in the vibrant city of Baku, Azerbaijan. Upon his arrival at the summit venue, he received a warm welcome from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, marking a collaborative spirit at this important international gathering.

During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif is set to host a significant Climate Finance Roundtable Conference, which will bring together numerous global leaders to discuss pressing climate finance issues. In his address, he plans to emphasize the unique challenges faced by developing nations, with a particular focus on Pakistan. Despite contributing minimally to global emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, Pakistan bears the brunt of climate change’s adverse effects, facing severe environmental and economic repercussions.

In addition to his hosting duties, the Prime Minister will participate in a high-level event titled “Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers,” organized by the President of Tajikistan. This event aims to address the critical issue of glacier protection, which is vital for sustaining water resources in many regions.

Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif has arranged for separate discussions with the Prime Ministers of Denmark and the Czech Republic, who are also attending COP-29. These meetings will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and provide a platform for the Prime Minister to share insights about the climate change-related risks that Pakistan faces, aiming to foster greater international support and cooperation in addressing these vital issues.
