On Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called for the Supreme Court to take action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the federal cabinet for failing to release funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa polls, in violation of court orders.

In a tweet, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry denounced the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for withholding funds and urged the Supreme Court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the prime minister and his Cabinet. He further suggested that they desire to be disqualified through court orders.

The PTI’s demand follows the ECP’s announcement that it lacks the necessary funds to hold by-elections in the constituencies of Daska and NA-75 Sialkot. The polls were previously cancelled due to allegations of widespread irregularities and violence.
