On Monday morning, a three-storey building in central Kyiv was badly damaged in a Russian missile attack. The missiles also caused debris to fall in three other districts of the city, according to city officials. The attack caused a string of explosions to ring out across the Ukrainian capital, with a Reuters reporter witnessing a column of smoke rising in the eastern part of the city.

The city’s military administration initially reported that the building was residential but later clarified that it was a multi-story, non-residential building located in the Pechersk district. Two people were injured in the attack, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Debris also fell in the Solomyansky, Holosiyvsky, and Dnipro districts, the administration said. Bridget Brink, the US ambassador to Kyiv, accused Russia of using hypersonic missiles to attack the Ukrainian capital. She also stated that Russia had launched hundreds of missiles and drones against Ukraine in the last five days.

Moments before the explosions, Ukraine’s air force had warned residents of an incoming missile via a Telegram message. Klitschko also urged people to seek shelter immediately on the messenger.

Russia has dramatically increased its missile strikes on Ukraine over the past few days. The attack on Kyiv marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
