Secretary Power Division Rashid Mahmood Langrial Appointed New Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue

According to a notification issued on Wednesday, the federal government has appointed Secretary Power Division Rashid Mahmood Langrial as the new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the notification, Mr Rashid Mahmood, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service currently serving as Secretary of the Power Division, has been transferred and posted as Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue with immediate effect and until further orders under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.

Langrial will take over from Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, who has been leading the board since his appointment in August 2023. Prior to this, Tiwana had requested early retirement, which will be effective from August 15, six months before reaching the age of superannuation.

Earlier reports had mentioned several names in consideration for the post of FBR chief, including Hamid Atiq Sarwar, Advisor (Revenue) in Revenue Mobilisation, Investment and Trade Programme by FCDO UK, Faiz Chaddar, Director General (DG) Customs Academy, and Secretary Power Rashid Langrial.

Before Langrial’s appointment, the FBR has witnessed the appointment of eight individuals as FBR chief since 2018.
