An armed individual perpetrated a heinous act at Azerbaijan’s consulate in Iran, resulting in the death of a security personnel and injuries to two others.

Azerbaijan has denounced the occurrence as an act of terrorism, blaming it on Iran’s failure to heed calls for heightened security measures. The Iranian police have apprehended a suspect and Iranian officials have condemned the incident, but have refrained from linking it to any political agenda.

This attack comes at a time of increased tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran, especially after Azerbaijan appointed its first-ever ambassador to Israel recently. The perpetrator broke into the guard post and mercilessly shot the head of security with a Kalashnikov rifle.
