THE UNITED NATIONS: According to diplomats, the United Nations Security Council will meet informally next week to examine Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration’s decision to bar female humanitarian assistance workers.
The United Arab Emirates and Japan sought the closed-door meeting on January 13. The request was published in a tweet by the UAE. The Taliban-led administration issued the ban on female humanitarian workers on December 24.
It came after a restriction on women attending universities was enacted earlier this month. In March, girls were barred from attending high school.
Martin Griffiths, the UN’s top humanitarian officer, is scheduled to visit Afghanistan in the coming weeks to meet with Taliban officials. At least four significant
